Premium hand-collected Ohio Flint Ridge Rainbow Flint perfect for tumbling, cabochons and small knapping projects.

Flint Ridge flint is a high-quality, multicolored chert from eastern Ohio, known for its vibrant colors and importance to Native Americans for tools and ceremonial objects. It is a type of quartz that can range from a dull, opaque white or gray to richly colored, banded "ribbon" flint with a waxy luster. Heat treatment makes it easier to knap (shape) and enhances its colors, which can include blue, green, yellow, red, and purple.
  • Color: Highly variable, with raw forms showing white, grayish-blue, and bands of red and yellow. Heat treatment produces more vibrant and diverse colors, including blues, greens, yellows, purples, and pinks.
  • Luster: Ranges from dull in raw form to a glassy, vitreous sheen in heat-treated form.
  • Texture: Fine-grained and dense, often with a waxy feel.
  • Fracture: Breaks with a sharp, glass-like (conchoidal) fracture, which is ideal for creating sharp edges.
  • Hardness: Hard enough to scratch steel, making it durable for tools.

These pieces are small to medium in size, perfect for tumbling, cutting into cabochons, or small knapping projects. Sold by the pound. You will receive 5-15 pieces per pound. Random pull from stock, so sizes/shapes/colors/patterns are not guaranteed. You will receive different raw stones than those pictured, but all stones are unique with beautiful colors and patterning, with some containing druzy faces, vugs and seams. Shipping is extra.
